About the Project

We are building the next generation of AI scientists to transform how materials and chemistry R&D is conducted worldwide. LLM4Chem, our cutting-edge large language model for chemical reasoning, is designed to power self-driving labs (SDLs)—intelligent experimental platforms that plan, execute, and analyze experiments autonomously. This project unites GreenDynamics’ AI platforms and UNSW’s global leadership in machine learning, chemical synthesis, and energy materials.

The Role

We are seeking a Research Assistant (RA) to join the LLM4Chem / SDL Agent project. The RA will support the development of AI agents capable of autonomous hypothesis generation, experiment planning, and chemical synthesis, collaborating with researchers from UNSW’s AI4Science group and engineers at GreenDynamics.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the post-training and evaluation of LLM-based agents for chemical and materials science tasks.
• Contribute to the design and execution of autonomous lab workflows, including experiment scheduling and real-time feedback loops.
• Develop and maintain datasets and benchmarks for AI-driven chemical synthesis.
• Support the preparation of research papers, technical documentation, and reports.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams spanning AI, chemistry, robotics, and materials science.
